Abstract

This study aims to identify a competency development model for human resources in Islamic banks, highlighting the strategic value of human capital development for achieving strategic objectives and competitive advantage. The research employs an exploratory qualitative design, utilising in-depth and semi-structured interviews with 25 Islamic human resource development practitioners and experts. Thematic analysis of the interviews verbatim reveals that core competencies include Sharia knowledge and applications, Fiqh Muamalat, proficiency in Islamic banking products and operations, and essential personal, social, and methodological skills. The findings also indicate that specialised training, mentoring, and coaching are critical for enhancing these capabilities. The model offers a practical framework for Islamic banking practitioners to design effective human resource development initiatives, ultimately contributing to the Islamic banking sector's growth and ability to navigate strategic challenges effectively.
