Management of pharyngoesophageal spasm with Botox

Abstract

Botox injection is a safe and effective treatment for TE speech failure associated with PE spasm. With no need for surgery, it is especially suitable for patients unwilling or unable to tolerate the risks of general anesthesia or surgical intervention in a previously irradiated or operated field. The relatively simple technique and ability for repeat application make it an attractive option. In many centers, it has replaced cricopharyngeal myotomy in the treatment of PE spasm after laryngectomy.
