Abstract

This paper uses Netflix's dystopian Korean-language drama series Squid Game (2021) to illustrate an active-learning technique for teaching game theory in introductory classes. The series is chosen as it uses different games which the characters have to engage with as part of the narrative. Geerling, Mateer and Addler (2020) show that using popular films in class is an effective way to teach core game theory concepts. We build on this work by using short scenes from three of the six games used in the series, providing a detailed write up of each scene, interactive warm up activities, and follow-up questions, so instructors know how to embed this content into their courses. This article is suitable for use in advance placement and principles-level courses in economics. JEL Codes: A20, A21
