Implementing Knowledge Management Systems in Higher Education Institutions

Abstract

This study focuses on the use of Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The goal is to formulate an effective strategy for fostering systematic KMS adoption within the sector. This is achieved through a model building process which utilizes a systematic literature review based on KM and HEI literature. KMS impact on prospective knowledge sharing, research productivity, and administrative workload is demonstrated with output indicators. Results indicate that KMS frameworks must incorporate organizational culture, stakeholder participation, technology, and domain-specific HEI knowledge to optimize institutional value and enhance KMS use. The study provides an important innovative contribution for higher education institutional leaders desiring refined KMS integration into their knowledge management processes verticals.
