Combination of online flipped classroom and case base learning to improve students' understanding of clinical chemistry subjects

Abstract

The achievement of clinical chemistry course scores that have not met the target of the study program for the last 4 years has motivated the existence of learning innovations in this course. In the previous year, the learning method was blended learning, with teacher center learning still being dominated (60%). Therefore, learning in the year of 2020/2021 was carried out using a combination method of online flipped classroom and case base learning. The online flipped classroom method is a modification of the flipped classroom that has been widely used before, by providing material asynchronously through learning media followed by synchronous discussion of the material using online media. Student understanding is also strengthened by providing cases that are solved in groups using the case-based learning method which is carried out at the end of each explanation of the study material. The implementation of online flipped classroom and case base learning which is carried out alternately has received a positive response from students. The learning evaluation shows the final grade of the course which increases dramatically and exceeds the target set by the study program.
