Abstract

Pedophilia is not within the legal definitions; it does not appear as a crime. What can be considered a crime is the practices resulting from it. Every day, however, we hear the expression 'crime of pedophilia'. The objective is, by using cinema and Veja magazine as a source, to comprehend how the term pedophilia was understood within the selected time frame from 1996 to 2010. To reflect on the use of the term in question, the analysis by opposition will be used, which consists of understanding the concept in a sense that is opposed to other terms used to portray sexual violence against children and adolescents. The results obtained fit the perspective that the concept of pedophilia is misused in common sense, in cinema and Veja Magazine.
