Abstract
Secondary prevention refers to treatment aimed at preventing further acute myocardial infarction (AMI) or other major coronary events in a patient who has survived an AMI. This treatment should be based on the available clinical evidence and tailored to the patient's individual risk factor profile. However, while good controlled clinical trial data are available to guide clinicians in their selection of revascularisation method and drug therapy, less is known about the optimal diet for AMI survivors. Furthermore, the important role of psychological risk factors in these patients tends to be ignored.
