Abstract

The strategic role played by the Catalysis to achieve a sustainable development is crucial and is reflected by the fact that it is involved, directly or indirectly, in at least nine of the seventeen sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the ONU and by constituting one of the twelve Principles of Green Chemistry. Thus, the exercise of rethinking several premises in the sense of designing catalytic systems that can transform renewable resources into products of interest to society, acting in the areas of energy or environmental remediation is already underway. In this context, the examples presented here illustrate the contributions of Catalysis in the pursuit of sustainability, showing that it contributes and will greatly contribute to sustainable development.
