This paper analyzes the rules for determining the order of surnames in Chile and Colombia, in relation to the right to identity and filiation. It suggests cross-sectional keys as equality and the requirement of non-discrimination. It explores the Spanish law because it offers elements that may be illustrative of eventual legal reforms.
