Abstract
A fertile garbage dump accumulated on the floor of the subsidiary courtyard west of Structure J3 of Group IV of Palenque, was excavated in 2016, 2017 and 2018. This feature provides interesting data of the livelihoods of the inhabitants, including details referring culinary and consumption practices. This paper reviews the faunas that were used by the cuisine of this sub-royal elite group, as well as their hunting practices, consumption habits, and the role that animals played in the ceremonial and ritual life of these people.
