Abstract
This article aims to reflect on childhood education in Brazil and the right of access to it of children and families living in rural areas. The early childhood education as an object of urban social struggles and practices is discussed. Subsequently, the conditions of supply and the point of view of the families living in rural areas in two municipalities are presented and discussed, in order to highlight the tensions and dilemmas around the introduction of institutional education of children from zero to six years of age in rural areas.
