The article assumes that the planetary ecological crisis (the so-called Anthropocene) is related to a radical rearrangement of interactions between society and the biosphere, generated by capitalist/industrial modernity. The latter considers the "productive forces" (industrial science and technology) as the main factor of progress and well-being, while considering reproduction (both human and non-human) as a passive instrument for production towards the unlimited expansion of Gross Domestic Product. The article argues that an ecosocialist politics needs, on the contrary, to recognize the relevance of the "forces of reproduction" - understood as the work of subsistence, reproduction, regeneration, restoration and care. The argument is based on an approach that intersects historical materialism and ecofeminist thinking, offering theoretical tools to undo the Anthropocene and build an ecosocialist alternative.
