Abstract
To determine the systematical correlation of Peyer's patch cells with the thymus or spleen cells, the effects of supernatant (PPS) of Peyer's patch (PP) cells culture in vitro with bacterial cells (KGM), polysaccharide (KGP) or protein fraction (KGPP) from kefir grain on the mitogenicity of thymocytes and splenocytes were investigated. The proliferation of thymocytes from normal C3H/Hej mice was not affected by the addition of PPS of either normal mice or tumor bearing C57BL/6 mice from PP cells cultured with KGM or KGPP for 48 h. The mitogenic activity of phytohemagglutinin (PHA-P) to thymocytes from normal C3H/HeJ mice was enhanced with the addition of PPS from PP cells cultured with KGP. The PPS of tumor bearing mice increased the mitogenic activity. In addition, the PPS from PP cells cultured with KGPP induced a significant increase in mitogenic activity of PHA-P to thymocytes, but not in the mitogenic response of thymocytes to Concanavalin A (ConA) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The proliferation of splenocytes from normal C57BL/6 mice was not affected by the addition of PPS from PP cells culture of normal C57BL/6 mice stimulated with KGM, KGP or KGPP for 48 h. These PPS did not show any changes in the mitogenic response of splenocytes to Con A, LPS and PHA-P. In contrast, PPS from PP cells of tumor bearing C57BL/6 mice cultured with KGP or KGPP enhanced the proliferation of splenocytes from normal C57BL/6 mice. PPS of tumor bearing C57BL/6 mice stimulated the mitogenic activity of Con A to splenocytes from normal C57BL/6 mice. Furthermore, PPS of tumor bearing C57BL/6 mice with KGP enhanced the mitogenic activities of both LPS and PHA-P to splenocytes. It was indicated that KGP and KGPP activated Peyer's patch cells from tumor bearing mice and that these cells secreted a soluble factor which enhanced the mitogenic response of thymocytes and splenocytes from normal mice. 0918-2365
