Abstract

This work presents a brief discussion of the physics and technology of magnetic stimulation. From Faraday's law of induction we describe how a fast and intense pulse of magnetic field may produce localized electric fields, suitable to generate electric currents in certain tissues. We discuss how the coil geometry, and the time profile of the pulse of current may be used to optimize the distribution and intensity of the induced electric fields.
