Abstract

This is a study of the distribution of the electric fields in a current conductor of 6(10) kV voltage class. The basic steps in calculating electric fields in current carriers are examined. A simplified calculation of the distribution of the electric field strength is carried out. The most complicated regions of the calculation are identified. For a current carrier of 6(10) kV voltage class the distribution of the potential and strength of the electric field inside the insulation layer of the solid insulation are calculated and the levels of the electric field strength in individual elements of the conductor are determined. These studies establish the character of the changes in the electric field strength in the insulating layer of the current carrier and the quality of the compound that is used is evaluated.
