Abstract
Lichens and air carnations used as bioindicators of air pollution in micro downtown of Santa Fe city. We analyzed the ability of lichens and air carnations as bioindicators of air quality in microdowntown of Santa Fe city. Samples were collected from three squares in Santa Fe downtown and controls were from two suburban locations. The concentration of Fe, Mn and Zn were determined by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). The data obtained showed that the control site presented lower concentration for all analized elements. Therefore, Parmelia caperata (L.) Ach. (Fungi: Parmeliaceae) and Tillandsia recurvata L. (Plantae: Bromeliaceae) could be good bioindicators to evaluate the air quality on the region. Moreover, monitoring of these species may provide new and useful information about atmospheric pollution and concentration of heavy metals in the environmet. (English) [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
