Abstract
A subcategory of fitness-for-duty evaluation, preplacement evaluations have a primary purpose of helping patients function as employees in occupations suited to their abilities, safely and with minimal risk to themselves, fellow workers, and the public. This article discusses the components of preplacement evaluations, ethical issues, and the effectiveness of these evaluations.
