The Ecological Ethics and Systemic Thought of Pope Francis

Abstract

Capra explores Pope Francis' new encyclical, Laudato Si' (Praise Be to You). He shows that the radical ethics championed by Pope Francis, expressed sometimes, but not always, in theological language, is essentially the ethics of deep ecology, the philosophical school founded by Arne Naess in the 1970s. He details with many examples how the Pope reveals himself in Laudato Si' as a truly systemic thinker.
