Abstract

This paper discusses the main narrative underlining female members of the Campus Propagation Institute (LDK) at several universities in Yogyakarta in dealing with polygamy. This paper argues that narration has an important role in shaping the perception of LDK female members of polygamy. The use of the Narrative Master’s theoretical framework with the method of data collection through interview techniques, found three main narratives that form three groups of interpretations of polygamy, namely the imbalance of the ratio of male and female populations (pro-polygamy groups); Sarah and Ibrahim (pro-polygamy conditional group); and Khadijah Loyalty (counter-polygamy group). This paper also explains how the narratives are used as an ideological foundation. In addition, this research also becomes one of the affirmations that there is actually a growing conservative discourse among women activists of LDK.
