Abstract

Establishing a trust relationship in decentralized wireless mesh networks (WMN) is an open question to date. In MANETs and cable bound meshed networks (like the Internet) there are a lot of proposals and solutions for trust establishment and for authentication. In this paper we examine those existing solutions and analyze them for their applicability to wireless mesh networks. We investigate the special demands of WMN, show the differences to existing network types and finally propose a trust agreement scheme that is particularly adapted to WMN. © 2011 IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.
