Abstract

Background: The increasing prevalence of hypertension requires good management to minimize complications that can occur, namely self-monitoring. Currently, almost everyone in the world has a smartphone, and current technological developments allow smartphones to have additional functions such as self-monitoring of hypertension, especially in measuring blood pressure. Objective: to analyze the results of research on hypertension management, namely self-monitoring with a smartphone-based application. Method: The method used in the search for research results was carried out on the CINAHL and ScienceDirect databases by entering the keywords "blood pressure", "blood pressure monitoring", and "application for blood pressure" between 2014 and 2018. Results: many applications for smartphones have a tracking function that can facilitate self-monitoring of hypertension. The tracking function consists of measuring blood pressure, pulse, weight, and BMI. Blood pressure measurement on smartphones is implemented using PPG or a combination of PPG (Photoplethysmogram) and SCG (Seimo Cardio Gram), both of which are claimed to be able to represent heart activity so that they can describe a person's blood pressure. Conclusion: The innovation of self-monitoring hypertension in the form of smartphone-based blood pressure measurement has a cost-effective impact and provides practicality.
