Abstract

A detailed description of Interferometric detectors of gravitational waves is given in this chapter. Starting with the classical Michelson configuration, and its interaction with gravitational waves, the experimental scheme is expanded in further steps, introducing the arm-extending Fabry Perot cavities (to which an Appendix is devoted), the Power Recycling Mirror and the Signal Recycling Cavity. The Antenna Pattern is discussed as well as some of the main controls (an Appendix gives more details about controls) needed to keep the interferometer aligned.
