Abstract

This article proposes analysis of the geographic, hydrographic, botanical and zoological studies contucted by the Brazilian botanist João Barbosa Rodrigues (1842-1909) on a journey along the Capim River between 1874 and 1875. This trip was part of the Amazon Basin Exploratory Commission, which was led by Barbosa Rodrigues and sponsored by the Imperial government. These studies are found in the Report “Exploration and study of the Amazon Basin: Capim river,” wich was published and presented to the Ministry of Agriculture, Commerce, and Public Works in 1875.
