Abstract

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is common in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and is associated with COPD exacerbations. Since macrolides have prokinetic effects and consequently may decrease GERD, we hypothesized that azithromycin may decrease exacerbations by decreasing GERD.
