Abstract
Nowadays graphic design is facing a new paradigm. After overcoming the activity, overcoming the job and overcoming the profession, we are now just in front the discipline, and with it, the need to order, clarify and define terms becomes basic for its solid settlement. In this article a qualitative study is made in order to detect the usual projects faced by a graphic designer as well as the existing classifications of them. This allows to establish de functions and the limits of the discipline competences. In conclusion a new classification system is proposed rooted in Jakobson's basic communication scheme.
