Abstract

Technology for the 4 th Industrial Revolution, including ICT, IoT, and big data, has been combined with various other technologies. As an example, these technologies combined with fire protection technology can help protect lives and minimize property damage due to fires. In this study, the patents for fire protection technology using IoT and ICT technologies were investigated from 1999 to 2018 in Korea, the United States, Japan, and Europe. The technology patents were analyzed for international patent status and technological competitiveness by country. Although there was a slow increase in the overall number of patents for the fire protection technology from 1999 to 2014, the number has increased rapidly since 2015. The analysis in this study was intended to afford basic data on existing research to understand the trend and impact of the incorporation of the technology for the 4 th Industrial Revolution into extant technology.
