Abstract
Objectives: To study the implementation of sustainability across different stages of product lifecycles. To review prevailing methods for sustainable product development and identify obstacles hindering progress. To identify the top strategies for achieving sustainable product development and minimizing environmental impact while maintaining economic profitability. Methods: Combining a literature review with industry case examples and market trends to analyze sustainability practices across product lifecycles. Examining various sustainability strategies relevant to different stages of the product lifecycle. Investigating how whole system thinking, lifecycle assessment, sustainable design rules, and circular economy practices contribute to sustainable product development. Results: The success of sustainable product development depends on: Whole system thinking integrated into lifecycle assessment. Application of sustainable design rules. Incorporation of circular economy practices. Companies that manage products from inception to end of life can minimize environmental impact while simultaneously creating business opportunities, such as cost reduction and enhanced market positions. Conclusion: Implementing sustainability throughout the product lifecycle is crucial for reducing ecological impact and maintaining profitability. Businesses can leverage sustainability strategies such as lifecycle assessment and circular economy practices to create long-term environmental and economic benefits.
