A correlation between mixing time and mixing power density for gas agitation is theoretically developed from the viewpoint of transport phenomena. The theoretical results were confirmed by water model experiments. Fluid motion in the vessel agitated by gas injection can be classified into a flow predominated by a viscous force and a flow predominated by an inertia force or turbulent viscous force. A procedure for scale-up is presented.
