Abstract

In an analysis based on the Mild to Moderate Kidney Disease (MMKD) study, adiponectin, a pleiotropic, insulin-sensitizing, anti-inflammatory and vasculo-protective cytokine, was directly related to renal disease progression. The precise definition of this apparently paradoxical association now requires that the research focus be moved from the study database to the experimental laboratory.
