Abstract
The abundance of biomass in Indonesia can be a big threat if not managed properly with the principle of carbon retention. The loss of large amounts of carbon into the air in the form of C02 has become a concern for the increase in global temperatures. Biochar is one of the solutions to maintain carbon on earth for a long period of time. Biochar is an amendment that today has been around the world for more than 10 years, and has been the subject of many studies, the quality of biochar is highly determined by the techniques used. The manufacture of biochar is the same as the manufacture of charcoal but there is a slight difference other than in its utilization, because the manufacture of charcoal uses 1 technique of making biochar. The Pyrolysis method is a method of making biochar, and the technique is 2 ways, namely by using Kiln and Retort. The Klin technique is a heating technique with a heat source coming from the material itself, namely combustion with limited oxygen, while the heating retort with a heat source is not from biomass but from other sources.
