Contributing factor to incident of patient safety within implementing patient safety goal in inpatient depok city hospital Indonesia

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the factorsthat contributes to patient safety incident within implementing patient safety goals in Depok City Hospital Indonesia. Method: This study used descriptive and analytical design with a cross-sectional approach, and concurrent mix of quantitative and qualitative method by open question. The aim of an open questions is to complete the data gained regarding the implementation of patient safety goals which cannot be perfectly answered by the responses of the questionnaire items. The population of this study is nurses, who work on inpatient setting with 94 sample sizes. The quantitative data collection analyzes by Univariate, Bivariate, and Multivariate analysis, while qualitative data, analyze by content analysis. Result: the prevalence of incident of patient safety is 47.9%, while confirmed by content analysis, the number is higher up to 64.8%. Moreover, the fivefactors contributing to an incident of patient safety are Age factor (PV 0.035), staff factor (PV 0.012), Task Factor (PV 0.004), Communication factor(PV 0.000) and medical equipment factor with (PV 0.001). While Work Environment, Organization, Training and Education, and team factor does not contribute to an incident of patient safety. Conclusion: Prevalence of patient safety incident is high, while factors contributing to an incident of patient safety are age factor, staff factor, task factor, medical equipment factor, organization factor, and team factor. Team factorsignificantly contributes to an incident of patient safety with 34.5%.The most affecting to an incident of patient safety is incomplete medical equipment in the ward with the score of Wald test is 7.555.
