Padrões espaciais de votação nas eleições para a Câmara Municipal de São Paulo: um estudo a partir das eleições de 20201

Abstract

This article examines the regional voting patterns for city councilors in São Paulo, focusing on its territorialization. Drawing from electoral geography literature within open list systems and specifically in São Paulo, we analyze the spatial distribution of votes for candidates. Employing a global concentration indicator, we delineate electoral territories and underscore the influence of party affiliation and gender on these patterns. Our findings reveal that in São Paulo, competitive candidates tend to garner more dispersed votes compared to non-competitive ones. Additionally, certain regions exhibit either under- or over-representation relative to their electorate, with clear concentration patterns observed among major political parties. Moreover, we observe distinctive concentration patterns among competitive female candidates as compared to their male counterparts.
