Abstract

Plants, such as Peperomia pellucida L., contain Xanthine Oxidase Inhibitory (XOI) that help reduce gout symptoms due to their anti-inflammatory activity. This study examines the conceptual design development of a Peperomia pellucida-based herbal product plant for gout remedies. A survey was conducted to various age groups with 65 respondents, identifying 19 consumer needs. Product specifications were determined from those needs and by benchmarking with market-available products. A new concept was selected based on criteria, such as ease of manufacture, price, taste, ease of use, XOI, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant contents. The final concept contains P. pellucida as an XOI source and ginger as an anti-inflammatory agent and is applied orally.
