Abstract

This research links cognitive and affective variables in the resolution of a learning situation, with the aim of knowing the students' emotional manifestation during the process of apprehending the modeling of the mathematical object linear function. This study intends to contribute to the field of affective domain in Mathematics Education, given the relevance this dimensionhas had in the last decades, because it is a key factor in understanding performance in this area. With this in mind, a descriptive research study was carried out using a quantitative methodology with a sample of 349 secondary school students from six schools in a Chilean region. Mathematical modeling was used as an attempt to describe part of the real world in mathematical terms; results indicate that the nexus between performance in Mathematics and emotionality variables is evident, but not the relation between gender and emotions.
