Photogeneration of octacene and nonacene

Abstract

(Figure Presented) Take it to the limit: Parent acenes larger than heptacene have eluded synthesis for decades. When 1,2-diketone bridges in suitably designed tetraketone precursors were removed by irradiation under matrixisolation conditions (see scheme), the parent systems of the two next higher acenes were accessible experimentally. © 2010 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
