Abstract
Objectives: Gynaecomastia is the benign development of the male breast, mainly due to physiological or idiopathic conditions, and less often, to urological conditions, such as Leydig cell tumours. The authors present the experience of their Department. Material and methods: Retrospective review of the Leydig cell tumours followed up in our department in the last 15 years. Prevalence and outcome of gynaecomastia were evaluated. Results: Eight patients were evaluated with a mean follow up of 59.9 months. Three of them presented with gynaecomastia and a testicular mass; one ultimately underwent mastectomy. All underwent radical orchiectomy, with no signs of disease progression / relapse. Conclusion: Leydig cell tumours are mostly benign. Gynaecomastia is one clinical sign that should alert us to this pathology. A long term follow-up is needed to prevent possible late relapse. © 2008 Sociedad Española de Andrología.
