Abstract

The over/under acquisition technique was first introduced in the mid 1980s, but it was not until recent advances in acquisition technology that the method became viable. The benefits this technology offers over a conventional single-source, single-cable acquisition configuration have been detailed and some of the benefits illustrated with a case history. The first commercial single-source depth and over/under cable acquisition program was performed in December 2004. In 2005, over 3500 km of over/under data were acquired, with a very significant percentage having both over/under sources and over/under cables. In 2006 the evolution of the technology continued with the commercial application of the over/under technique being extended to 3D. © 2006 EAGE.
