Abstract

Two groups of weaned piglets (6 pigs/group), infected with Ascaris suum, were administered either morantel citrate or mebendazole (PO, 10 mg/kg bodyweight). Morantel citrate and mebendazole showed 98.46 and 94.74% efficacy, respectively, by day 8, post treatment. Mean eggs per gram (EPG) counts was reduced from 6500+or-267.71 (at day 0) to 100+or-40.82 (at day 8) after morantel citrate administration, while EPG counts after mebendazole treatment was reduced from 3800+or-258.20 (day 0) to 200+or-62.36 (day 8). Morantel citrate was suggested as the preferred drug for ascariasis treatment in pigs.
