### Summary

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

This position is being filled under the Expedited Hiring Authority for Shortage Category and/or Critical Need Health Care Occupations.

**About the Position:**
This position is located in Inpatient Services, Transitional Care Management Services, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Tacoma, Washington.
Joint Base Lewis-McChord is a military installation (Army and Air Force) located approximately 9 miles from the city of Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma is a progressive city of 200,000 nestled between Seattle and the state capital of Olympia, offering the attractions of larger metropolitan areas with a hometown feel. Tacoma is located 32 miles south of Seattle, 31 miles north of the state capital, Olympia, and 18 miles south of Sea-Tac International Airport. Tacoma is on the shores of Commencement Bay, within pristine eyesight of Mount Rainier. World-class museums, hotels, and theaters draw thousands to downtown Tacoma while the shores of the Puget Sound and Mount Rainier inspire outdoor enthusiasts. ### Responsibilities

As a Social Worker (Clinical), you will:
Conduct clinical evaluations of Behavioral Health patients in emergent situations to develop treatment plans.
Provide crisis intervention services to Behavioral Health patients with behavioral and/or psychiatric disorders.
Perform individual, group, and/or family therapy utilizing a variety of treatment modalities.
Conduct behavioral health needs assessment to evaluate patient treatment plans.
Provide clinical consultation to other professional and paraprofessionals to facilitate emotional education and psychological adjustment of behavioral health patients.

* Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
* This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
* May be required to work weekend call duties or evenings.

### Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. **Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Clinical):**
**Degree**: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
**Specialized experience is defined as:** conducting initial clinical evaluations of behavioral health patients, developing patient treatment plans, and providing crisis intervention services. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
**Licensure**: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.
