Assistant, Associate or Full Professor - Tenure Track-Gut Microbiome and Psychiatric Illnesses
Assistant, Associate or Full Professor - Tenure Track - Department of Psychiatry - With Research Interests in the Gut Microbiome and Psychiatric Illnesses and/or Behavior
The Department of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant, Associate, and/or Full Professor position in the tenure track. Responsibilities include development of a world-class research program that entails synergistic interactions with other basic, translational, and clinical scientists in the Department of Psychiatry and other research programs within the University of Pennsylvania and affiliated research groups at CHOP. Participation in the education mission of the department is also expected. Applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research.
The position will be for a new program of research examining the interactions between the gut microbiome and behavior, in general, and in psychiatric illnesses in particular. We are seeking investigators using cutting-edge technologies to understand gut-to-brain communication, as well as the developmental and immunological mechanisms by which the gut microbiome mechanistically influences brain function, resulting in psychiatric illness and behavioral disorders.
This new program brings together investigators working in diverse areas and different departments and centers at Penn and at CHOP, but with a focus on causal microbiome-brain mechanisms involved in the development and perpetuation of Autism, Depression, Schizophrenia, Neurodegenerative Diseases, Stress, Obesity, Diabetes and more generally the neurobiological basis of maladaptive complex behaviors.
We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense.
The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE. Minorities/Women/Individuals with disabilities/Protected Veterans are encouraged to apply.
