The University of Portsmouth is a dynamic and ambitious institution with a track record of success. One of only four universities in the south east of England to achieve a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework, it is also ranked 21st in the 2020 Guardian League Table University Guide, and 113th in the Times Higher Young University World Rankings.

The School of Computing at the University of Portsmouth wishes to appoint a Teaching Fellow in the field of Computer Science on a 3-year contract. You will be involved in curriculum development, a wide range of teaching duties and contribute to support extra-curricular activities for our students.

You will be joining a large diverse school with strong recruitment to a broad range of on-campus and distance-learning BCS accredited courses spanning the computing discipline. The School attracts students from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures both from within the UK and elsewhere in the world.

Your duties will include teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will also be asked to take on administrative and other management activities appropriate to the post, including assessment, student recruitment and module co-ordination. You will also be expected to keep your teaching up to date with recent developments in the field.

The role requires excellent communication and management skills, a willingness to engage with a broad range of computer science topics, concern for development of the students and an enthusiasm for the development of innovative teaching initiatives.

You should have attained a PhD or equivalent in the computer science discipline and should, ideally, also have relevant industrial experience.

Informal enquiries can be made by telephone or email to Nick Savage (Head of School) Tel: 023 9284 6363, email: nick.savage@port.ac.uk.

Applications from candidates who require sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons and all appointments will be made on merit. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applications from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.
