Applications are invited for a post based within the Power Electronics, Machines and Control (PEMC) research group at the University of Nottingham. The appointee will join the University of Nottingham as part of the PEMC Group and will be expected to undertake research and knowledge transfer on electrical machines for mobile applications. The PEMC group research group works closely with the University's Institute for Aerospace Technology (IAT), and has taken part in many EU, IUK and ATI funded research programs.

The current post arises from the EU-Funded Clean Sky 2 core partnership (EMINEO), for which a research fellow is required. Candidates with experience of electrical machines are encouraged to apply. The appointee will work on and develop research that will cover both low TRL and high TRL research for high performance and highly reliable aerospace electrical machines. The appointee is expected to help manage staff and students working on various related projects. The clear ability to deliver consistently high quality journal papers is required.

Candidates must hold a first degree (or equivalent) in electrical/electronic engineering or a related subject; a PhD or equivalent (or near completion) and research experience related to electrical machines. Desirable areas of experience and expertise are in electromagnetic design, thermal management, electromechanical modelling, lifetime modelling of electrical insulation and fault tolerant design. A good working knowledge of design tools for electrical machines, electromagnetic FE software and familiarity with electrical machines' thermal management is desirable. The ability to work in a team, lead both internally and externally, and interact/collaborate actively and professionally with industrial partners is essential. Working on transport electrical machines, it is essential that the successful applicant is able to actively support knowledge exchange and transfer activities with various OEMs and Tier 1 manufacturers and other academic partners.

This full-time (36.25 hours) post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 24 months. Job share arrangements may be considered.
