SACSIS is selecting a competitive candidate for the MSCO NanoChemistry at the University of Castilla-La Mancha for applying a Marie Curie IF grant.
The project in which the researcher will work deals with the development and the application of new soft materials in robotics. Soft materials open a range of possibilities that rigid robots don’t have, which has made the field of Soft Robotics one of the most important research fields in robotics nowadays. Soft robots can autonomously change their stiffness or their shape. They can implement embodied intelligence principles; they can conform to objects and perform human safe operations at low cost. Biomimetric soft robots can also exploit, like living organisms do, soft tissues and compliant structures to move effectively in complex natural environments. Moreover, humans feel more comfortable in presence of biomimetic robots, e.g. humanoids, than in presence of rigid robots.
Specifically, the goal of the project is to help in the solution of some of the open challenges in soft-robotics by means of the revolutionary use of new hydrogels that actuate out of water
DISCLAIMER: We are selecting a candidate to prepare a Marie Curie IF grant, which deadline is September 09, this is not a direct Post Doc position offer. If the grant is conceded the candidate will be joining the Research Group in 2021
Competitive candidates will be selected for applying to a Marie Curie IF grant that covers full salary (4.650€/month) + family allowance (500€/month) + R&D expenses.
High motivation and ability to be involved in an international multidisciplinary team. Mobility experience, participation in research projects and scientiLc productivity is appreciated.
Mobility rule: Candidates must not have resided or carried out their main research activity in Spain for more than 12 months from September 9, 2017 to September 9, 2020

REQUIRED EDUCATION LEVEL
Engineering: PhD or equivalent
Suitable candidates should have interest in this topic and experience in: Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related field. Candidates with strong background in soft robotics, finite element analysis, 3D/4D printing of functional materials Familiarity with techniques and problems of making and working with soft robots -- experience in biological modelling or embodied artificial intelligence and morphological computation will be especially relevant.
Ability to work independently and goal-oriented high commitment;
Fluent in English language
Passion and interest in practice-oriented, interdisciplinary collaboration with project partners.
Willingness to travel internationally.
Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related field.
