POSITION: Seasonal Water Quality Technician, Seasonal, Part-Time



LOCATION: Pomme de Terre River Association Office: 12 Hwy 28 E. Ste. 2, Morris, MN 56267



SALARY/BENEFITS: $15/hr. Fringe Benefits not included (i.e. overtime, holiday, vacation, benefits)



TERM: May 1st - September 26th (20hrs/week)



Hours: Monday - Wednesday (Occasional Thursday) 20hrs/wk. Part Time, Seasonal



The Water Quality Technician for the Pomme de Terre River Association (PDTRA) is a part-time seasonal field position. Technician will be responsible for collecting and reporting on a variety of lake and stream water quality parameters throughout the Pomme de Terre Watershed to be used in the PDTRA's Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy and Total Daily Maximum Load Analysis. Technician will mainly work independently with little to no supervision traveling the watershed and collecting water samples from culverts in varying weather conditions.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:



- Follow standard operating procedures to independently conduct manual collection of lake and stream water quality data such as Total Suspended Solids, E. coli, Temperature, pH, , Dissolved Oxygen, etc.



- Utilize equipment: Sonde/Field meter, Van Dorn Kemmerer sampler, GPS.



- Responsible for sanitizing equipment and boat after each use in prevention of spreading aquatic invasive species.

- Operate 4X4 standard transmission vehicle with boat trailer and small boat motor

- Daily preparations of time-sensitive samples for shipment to environmental lab.

- Record and report all observations in detail

- Assist Coordinator in other outreach materials, reports, and duties as needed and assigned by supervisor (i.e. webpage blog, grant interim reporting, etc.)



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



- 2-year degree/ education in Natural Resource, Ecological Science, or closely related field.

- Education in water quality

- Highly motivated to work with no supervision

- flexible - Time of work and hours to complete work may very throughout the field season. (Work days not restricted to 8hrs - a lake sampling day may last 10hrs and begin at 6AM, an office day may only last 4hrs and begin at 8AM. Schedule may be discussed with supervisor. Technician will work 20hr weeks)

- Attention to detail

- Verbal and written communications

- Ability to communicate clearly with the public about work being completed

- Ability to assess and solve problems independently

- Valid Driver's license and ability to operate a standard transmission vehicle

- Able to lift 50lbs, collect samples in difficult terrain and varying weather.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



- Field experience with water quality monitoring

- Experience with standard transmission 4X4 vehicles.

- Experience with boat trailers and boat operations.
