Job Description:

3M is seeking an Application Engineer (m/f) for the Automotive Aftermarket Division located in Neuss.

Job Summary:

The position of Application Engineer will have a primary focus providing technical testing, training and application development for vehicle OEMs for 3M's range of adhesive technologies. Acting as a liaison between 3M and our OEM customers, this position will be dependent on creating solid working relationships in order to enhance 3M's position as a supplier for aftermarket solutions in the repair of their vehicles. It will also involve working with new product development teams and the creation of products, applications and support materials for our collision repair customer base. Position will also require support of internal and external customer training sessions through formal presentation and hands-on demonstrations. Knowledge of the collision repair or automotive aftermarket industry would be a benefit with this position.

This position will be based in Neuss, reporting through the West Europe Technical Team leadership based in Atherstone, UK.

Roles and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

+ Establish / grow network of key technical contacts at all levels across European OEMs.

+ Achieving specification for 3M adhesive products across the whole range of European automotive manufacturers.

+ Carrying out appropriate testing in 3M lab facilities and reporting appropriate data to OEM contacts to achieve specifications.

+ Working on new product introduction projects/teams

+ Developing new systems and customer solutions

+ Field testing and new product evaluations

+ Developing value propositions for the products/systems

+ Collecting and analyzing voice of customer data

+ Developing and performing hands-on product demonstrations

+ Developing competitive awareness and testing competitive products

+ Developing technical communications packages

+ Organizational skills in preparing for training

+ High level of IT skill across key software packages

+ Other duties as assigned

Your Qualifications:

+ preferred 10+ years previous experience in the automotive industry, preferably with the key European OEMs

+ Previous experience in application engineering, technical training and/or technical sales

+ Excellent understanding of common automotive adhesive test methods and specifications, or similar specifications from allied industries.

+ Good understanding of vehicle assembly and repair processes.

+ Bachelors degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university; Technical diploma in an automotive discipline

+ Fluent German and English (additional European languages would also be beneficial)

+ Excellent computer skills, highly proficient in MS Office Suite and statistical analysis of data using common software packages e.g. Minitab.

+ Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, listening and presentation)

+ Ability to analyze, problem solve and implement solutions

+ Innovation skills to generate new ideas or alternative solutions

+ Ability to lead teams

+ Effective formal and hands-on demonstration techniques

+ "Can do/will do" attitude
