**Lab Technologist -Corrosion and Failure Analysis (Job Number: 192028W-01)**


The Process Technology and Solutions (PT&S) group in the Engineering Technology Center of the Specialty Products Division of DowDuPont located in Wilmington, Delaware is a global corporate engineering consulting group that provides engineering services to DuPont businesses worldwide. The group provides innovative solutions to support process development, design of process equipment, evaluation of technical alternatives, capital project work, process trouble-shooting, process improvement, engineering judgment, and determining root cause of process and equipment problems.

We have an exciting opportunity n Wilmington DE for an experienced Materials Laboratory Technologist. The Technologist will have broad responsibilities in supporting Failure Analysis and Materials Characterization and provide support, as required, for Corrosion Testing efforts undertaken by the lab. The Technologist will work in concert with the Lab Materials Leader and other client Materials Engineers on a broad range of metals, plastics, and ceramics programs. The Technologist will be responsible for data generation and initial documentation that will be the basis for the Materials Leader and other client Materials Engineers recommendations for R&D, Project and Plant Reliability programs.

The Corrosion Laboratory and the Failure Analysis and Characterization Laboratory are considered as one laboratory with respect to resource management. Although the candidate's primary responsibility will be in Materials related lab support, cross training will occur in Corrosion Testing to support those efforts.

A candidate's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

* Assuring that all Lab Safety Procedures and Practices are up to date and meet all Site and Corporate Requirements

* Safely purchasing, storing and use of flammable, corrosive, and hazardous test chemicals.

* Inventorying, maintaining, replacing and purchasing all necessary equipment for the lab, and purchasing and inventory maintenance of consumables required for lab operation.

* Component size reduction for evaluation and testing, using in-house cutting apparatus and/or coordination with outside shops for component preparation.

* Macrophotography using hand held, and bench stand cameras including appropriate use of lighting techniques to maximize the features of interest.

* Cold and hot mounting of samples for metallographic and SEM evaluation.

* Polishing and etching a broad range of alloys including, steels, stainless and nickel alloys, reactive and precious metals.

* Chemical Analysis with Lab XRF equipment and coordination of analysis by XRD, FTIR and Thermal techniques.

* Rockwell and micro-hardness testing of samples.

* NDE testing including LPI, MPI, leak and compression beam UT and coordination of outside testing with other techniques (e.g. radiography, phase array UT)

* Coordination of outside lab tensile, impact, and fracture toughness testing.

* Routine SEM/EDS analysis on the Lab ESEM

* Weighing, measuring corrosion coupons and assessing them for localized corrosion phenomena such as pitting, cracking and crevice attack when required

* Set-up, Test and Breakdown of standard corrosion test apparatus.

* Conducting maintenance of existing and set-up of new equipment.

* Inputting data into the Corporate Corrosion Database, including coupon, process and necessary background information. Assuring database derived general corrosion rates are accurate, inputting localized damage mechanisms in a concise and repeatable fashion.

* Coordinating analysis of corrosion test solutions and coupons with internal/external laboratories, where required.


Education, Skill and Experience Requirements

* Bachelor's degree in metallurgy or one of the following;

o Associated degree in metallurgy or a related field with at least 5 years of metals related laboratory experience,

o High school diploma, 10 years working in a materials related position with 5 years of specific Failure Analysis and/or Materials Characterization Lab experience.

* Demonstrated knowledge of safe laboratory work practices and procedures.

* Ability to identify, procure and start-up new equipment, including completion of Standard Operating Procedures and Process Hazard Review (DuPont Standard S26A and PSM packages)

* Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Products, (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

* Demonstrated self-starting and personal ownership for Lab operations and Assets

* Fluent in English

* Ability to write brief technical report, summarizing experimental methods and Results.

* Excellent record-keeping and organizational skills

* Open to Learning from and Teaching others in the company.

* Fellow Technologists: locate, utilize and share resources, demonstrated flexibility in sharing work.

* Lab Leadership: Identify, advocate and execute upgrades to lab operations that promote safety, quality and response time.

* Plant Site or Business Unit Contacts: Manage samples and testing, clarify issues related to execution of testing, communicate basic test results

* Equipment Suppliers: Manage maintenance and trouble-shooting of laboratory equipment
