DescriptionThe role of this position ensures continuous compliance with environmental permits and regulations applicable to operations at Arizona Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. (AEPCO), an electric generation and transmission cooperative. Assisting with the planning, implementing and maintaining a variety of safety and environmental programs to assure facility compliance. The successful candidate will perform duties associated with environmental monitoring, record keeping, reporting and analysis for the Apache Generation Station. Be a self-starting individual who enjoys the daily challenge associated with an industrial field. This position is based in Cochise, Arizona.• Ensure the timely performance of compliance-related activities required of waste management, air permit, water permit programs cooperative-wide, coal combustion residual rule to include directing outside contractors, environmental sampling, maintenance of documentation and report preparation• Assist with Toxic Release Inventory, Tier II, and other compliance documentation and reporting• Manage contract laboratories• Review data obtained from Cooperative sources & databases, and external laboratory testing• Assist with the preparation of permit-required reports for facilities owned by the Cooperative• Assist in initial response and remediation activities related to environmental emergencies, including hazardous and non-hazardous materials, oil, toxic and unknown substance spills at cooperative owned or managed facilities• Assist in new employee and contractor orientation training• Assist with planning and implementing safety and environmental training for employees• Monitor ongoing updates in environmental regulations, laws or reporting requirements• Review compliance logs/documentation done by other Cooperative personnel for environmental regulations• If necessary, ability to obtain operator certification for the safe operation of a fork lift• Able to adapt to addition assignments as required and necessary

Requirements• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology or closely related field• 2 -3 years' relevant work experience. Experience in the utility industry, including knowledge of transmission and/or distribution operations preferred.• Thorough knowledge and experience in the proper method of identifying, handling, storing, record-keeping, transporting, and disposing of all types of regulated wastes• Excellent oral and written communication skills• Able to lift and safely carry environmental sampling materials and equipment, including driving a truck and trailer for well sampling• Familiarity with laboratory analytical principles and procedures• Ability to work effectively with federal, state and local regulatory agency personnel• Assists in the implementation of the AZPDES, SPCC, and NESHAP (asbestos), requirements• Excellent computing skills; experience with database and spreadsheet development using Microsoft Office products• 40-hour HAZWOPER certified preferred or ability to become certified• Certified Operator Water Distribution preferred or ability to become certified• Method 9 certified preferred or ability to become certified• Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations for the electric utility operations• Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience can be substituted for these requirements
