We are seeking an experienced R&D Mechanical Technologist to develop, fabricate, test and integrate flight hardware in a fast\-paced environment to support Missile Defense Applications\. You will have the opportunity to impact the development and performance of prototype flight systems\. This position will include both laboratory and field testing operations\. Some travel will be required to support program needs\.

On any given day, your duties will include:

+ Lead or collaborate with teams of other technologists on the design and development of a variety of mechanical components or assemblies to meet defined requirements
+ Working independently or in collaboration with other technologists, using hand tools or machine tools, to ensure that fabricated components are assembled in the manner designed
+ Make independent decisions, ensure the fabrication of prototype designs in the most efficient manner
+ Integrate assembled prototypes into mission systems
+ Participate in design peer reviews


+ You have an associate's degree in mechanical technology or related engineering field plus one or more years related experience; equivalent experience may also be considered
+ Your background includes experience in mechanical design, mechanical assembly, qualification, testing, fabrication, or production
+ You can obtain a DOE Q security clearance


Ideally, your background will also include:

+ Aerospace or automotive experience \(experience with complex mechanisms, appreciation of quality/care during handling, assembly using procedures, etc\.\)
+ Experience dealing with flight hardware
+ Experience with electrical cabling and interconnects
+ Experience designing for manufacturability
+ Experience with additive manufacturing
+ Experience with pressure systems
+ Mechanical design experience \(jigs, fixtures, handling gear, tooling, etc\.\)

Department Description:

The Advanced Threat Defeat group defines and realizes complex target vehicles for the Missile Defense Agency based on emerging threat data\. The vehicles are engineered to exercise the capabilities of our nation's Ballistic Missile Defense System\. The department also conceptualizes and studies mechanisms for hypersonic weapon defeat\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) Q\-level security clearance\.
