You will have the opportunity to apply your GIS education within a diversity of projects while supporting a multitude of professionals within the team. We will provide scope and variety in the work that you will do but the projects will be focused primarily on our operations in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. You will gain a strong appreciation of how GIS (Geographical Information Systems) supports the operations and decision-making processes.

You will use your expertise to:

+ Support the GIS team by fulfilling day-to-day requests

+ Build and assist with generation and spatial analysis where appropriate

+ Provide assistance with data loading, management and translation

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

+ Extraordinary understanding of the GIS theory along with projections and how they will influence data and cartography

+ Current enrolment in a diploma or degree program in 3rdor 4thyear or masters GIS, Earth Sciences, Geography or Environmental program at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term

Preference for:

+ You to have prior experience with data management and analysis Strong analytical and problem solving skills

+ Exceptional computer skills with an understanding of ArcGIS software

+ Knowledge of the oil and gas industry and oil sands process is ideal

+ Strong collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups

+ The ability to anticipate potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions, as well as having a strong sense of accountability

Where you'll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

+ You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 - 6thAve S.W.

+ This is an 8-month work term, from May 2019 - December 2019

+ Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
